I began my career in the wool industry in 1978 for CFCA and stayed on throughout four mergers, finishing up at Wrightsons.

I completed a Certificate in Wool at Lincoln University in 1986. I then went onto complete my Woolbrokers Certificate in crossbred, half bred and merino Division in 1987.

In 1991, I obtained my Shed Certificate for merino and half bred. I started in the shearing sheds back when it was eighty percent blade shearing and twenty percent machines. I have seen a significant change with it now being ninety five percent machine and five percent blade shearing. I have a long relationship with Bog Roy Station and The Wolds, beginning classing for them 26 years ago and continue to do so today.

Family developed my passion for the wool industry and I began working alongside them in 1991 at our family wool business, Mulcahy Wool Merchants. I have continued here for 26 years whilst continuing with wool classing in the sheds.

At Mulcahy Wool my brother Barry and myself continue to uphold the legacy established by our father in 1948. We buy from North Otago, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury and sell to various exporters.

In my opinion the importance of having good communication between the shearing contractors, farmer and wool classer is more beneficial today with the various contracts.

Rugby has remained an interest over the years and I remained Club captain for Celtic Rugby Club for 10 years and Club president for 2 years.
